Research carried out by London & Partners shows that EdTech is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK. The industry’s worth is predicted to reach around £130bn in 2020. So what’s all the fuss about? Why have we seen an increase in investment for this area of education?

Described as digital technology that will change and enhance the way people learn, there are plenty of reasons why EdTech is seen as driving factor in developing technology for educational purposes. It has the potential to further innovate our knowledge economy by producing more skilled workers, resulting in growth and a strong economy. Learning will become more personalised and tailored to the individuals current skill set, using big data to analyse one’s performance. This in turn makes a student’s learning process much more efficient and effective, delivering quicker results. On the big scale, EdTech has the potential to completely change the way education is taught and learnt on a global level, providing huge opportunities for students and teachers alike.

EdTech will also potentially cut costs across the educational sector. By doing so in specific areas, it can be replaced with new technology such as ‘smart learning software’ or engaging educational videos. User experience is also another underlying factor. People require the ease of learning through engaging mobile and desktop applications. Through apps and videos and online lessons, content is becoming more engaging, attracting new students but also keeping them engaged.

What do we think about EdTech? Here at The Spanish Academy we think it’s great for our students. It incorporates resources online, allows them to watch videos and use apps to supplement traditional learning. It’s not to say that traditional form of language learning is no longer relevant, what EdTech offers to our students is a more adaptable approach to learning, which suits their daily lives. Our online classes are ideal for older students who may have busy work schedules or our younger students who have to attend school. It just means that people now have choice on how they can learn, as not everybody learns in the same way. We are delighted to announce that our new platform My Language Lab is launching soon! My Language Lab is a new website solely for online lessons, specifically to help exam level students who wish to learn with us online.
