Overview of group tuition classes

Introduction
Our Saturday Surgeries™️ are group KS3 English classes for Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils studying the National Curriculum. These are hourly tuition sessions, held once a week, and are suitable for school pupils, homeschooled learners, external candidates and international students.
Some students need to top-up their learning and fill in knowledge gaps, whilst others need more support with catching up and improving their overall confidence. For others, they need guidance in preparation for the transition to GCSE. Our tutors follow the National Curriculum and schemes of work will be covered in chronological order.
Classes are suitable for all exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge, WJEC and Eduqas. Tutors have a sound knowledge of the syllabus guidelines and grade boundaries. Assessments are susceptible to changing frameworks and so parents and pupils will have peace of mind that we are up to date with these changes.

Content
Students will study critical analysis, creative and narrative writing, past exam paper practice, grammar, spelling and punctuation, writing skills, reading skills, spoken language, fiction and non-fiction reading and writing, poetry, Shakespeare and soft skills.

Class size
There is a maximum of 7 students per class so that tutors are able to allocate time for each individual. This also allows for pupils to get to know each other in their groups and encourage peer-to-peer activities and enables tutors to get to know their tutees’ strengths and areas for improvement.

Year groups
Our classes are based on abilities and skill sets rather than age and year group. This has increasingly become the case since Covid. There is well-documented evidence to show the efficacy of mixed abilities groups and this is our preferred approach. Our tutors combine a hybrid model of:
● scaffolding activities
● open-ended questions
● breakout rooms
● peer-to-peer exercises
●  independent tasks.
Over the years, we’ve found that activities can be viewed as revision for some students and covering new ground for others. We encourage students to book a free Assessment with us so that we can evaluate their abilities and skill set before registering.

Platform
Our Learning Dashboard is an all-in-one platform for your calendar, in-built Zoom, homework submission, grades, lesson materials and in-app notifications and reminders:
● During class, tutors will use breakout rooms, polls and chat for maximum engagement.
● Students will be given access to their Virtual Backpack with lesson resources, handouts and class corrections.
● Classes can be recorded for playback and revision with your permission.
● Homework will be assigned to students every week and need to be submitted on the platform for the work to be graded and added to their Gradebooks.
● Students are welcome to message their tutor on our learning platform if they have any follow-up questions.

Real-time progress tracking
Parents are given access to the platform so they can monitor their child's calendar, homework, progress and communication. Lab Reports™️ are sent every 3 months, Gradebooks list homework marks and we also hold Online Parents’ Evenings.

We have one simple membership price of £70/month, which is £17.50/class. Membership begins the day you sign up (there are no fees), you can cancel anytime and there's a no-quibble money-back guarantee.
