At The Spanish Academy we use a wide range of resources and materials in our Spanish classes. Each lesson contains a variety of different reading, writing, listening and speaking exercises, according to the requirements of each student. Here you will be able to watch Lucía discussing the types of materials that we tend to use in beginner’s classes.

As Lucía mentions in her video podcast, classes for complete beginners tend to use materials such as the 'Pasos 1' textbook. Pasos 1 is a great beginners textbook as it has a clear course outline and summary after each section, which allows students to do productive self-study when they are not in class with their teacher. Pasos also has a wide range of exercises, such as fill in the blanks, comprehension and writing, among others, which can be done alongside the teacher or as homework. As your level progresses, the materials that we use in the classes will be noticeably more diverse. Before you know it, you’ll be reading blogs and articles both online and in magazines, journals and newspapers, as well as listening to podcasts and watching videos and films in Spanish.

The specific topics are always customised to the likes and interests of each student. While we love using online resources and find them highly beneficial, we will most likely continue to use textbooks and course books throughout the classes in order to provide a basis of grammar and vocabulary.

We also have 13 years worth of our own materials, which we have collected and expanded over time. Therefore, it is likely that you will receive handouts, worksheets and exercises to do alongside them, which can be done either at home or during the class. So if you have a moment, watch the brief video below to get a hint of what it's like to be a beginner’s student at The Spanish Academy. If you have any further questions or if you would like to discuss organising a free assessment class to test out a lesson with one of our tutors, just give us a call or send us an email and we’ll get back to you straight away to confirm the beginning of your road to Spanish success!
