Beginners Spanish in Cardiff, Bristol and London

Many people find the thought of starting a new language from scratch a bit overwhelming. Maybe you need Spanish for work, in which case you probably are under of a lot of pressure to improve your knowledge and ability within a certain time frame. Maybe you are moving to a Spanish speaking country because your partner’s work is taking you there, and you know that you will need the language to find work, make friends or communicate with your child’s new school teachers. Or maybe, you simply want to make your CV look more appealing, take up a new hobby or challenge yourself. Whatever your reasons are, the beginning is always the hardest, but here at London Spanish Academy we can assure you that the result is more than just worthwhile, it’s rewarding and gratifying. So if you are wondering how we tend to conduct beginner classes, look no further than at this little guide for beginners:

Step 1:

Grammatical terms – while this may sound a little mundane, it is essential for learning to speak accurately in any language. It has probably been a long time since you studied the parts of speech in your English class at school, and let’s be honest, it’s not most children’s priority to concentrate on the meaning of an adverb and an adjective! But don’t worry, for most students this is a quick and easy to comprehend lesson that will only facilitate your learning experience. After this, we’ll move straight on to the alphabet, followed by the Spanish sounds!

Step 2:

Let’s get speaking! Now that you know how to pronounce the letters, you’ll be reading out loud and speaking in no time. We’ll start with greetings and responses, using informal and formal language when meeting someone and how to talk about what you do, where you are from and ask the same to someone else. Throughout this introduction lesson you’ll pick up plenty of vocabulary and present tense verbs and you’ll begin to grasp the patterns, which we’ll look over in more detail a few classes ahead. At London Spanish Academy we pride ourselves in being dynamic in the classroom, and for that reason we don’t stick religiously to the textbook. We enjoy seeing our students making progress using listening exercises, reading out loud and correcting pronunciation, taking a chunk of the class to practice conversation, even at the beginning stages. And needless to say, there will be plenty of homework given!

Step 3:

As your beginner level classes evolve, you’ll find yourself able to talk about yourself, your hobbies, your likes, your dislikes, your family, describe your clothes, your personality, your travel plans and survive in situations such as going to the doctors, checking in at a hotel, buying a house, trying on clothes and asking for your Christmas dinner ingredients in the butchers or the greengrocers. While we try to keep your classes as interactive and as useful for your lifestyle as possible, we’ll also strategically add aspects of essential grammar so that you are able to express yourself correctly and also so that you can be spontaneous when constructing sentences. As your level gets higher we’ll introduce you to resources that you can use in your own time and you will see your level increasing before your eyes.

So don’t be scared – starting a new language is a fantastic journey to embark on, which is enjoyable right from the very start. Just give us a ring for a free assessment class and there your ride will begin.
