Alicia is currently the appointed tutor for one of our clients, a British Diplomat at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Originally from Argentina and a Spanish national, Alicia has been teaching Spanish and working as a translator since 1987. She has lived and worked in Argentina, Spain and the US.
An enthusiastic linguist herself, Alicia speaks five languages – Spanish, English, French, Italian and Portuguese – and is well acquainted with all the academic and psychological obstacles to learning a foreign language.
Alicia’s CV is vast and impressive: she has taught general and business Spanish to learners of all abilities and ages, on both a group and one-to-one basis, and has successfully prepared her students for various examinations. She was formerly Assistant Director of Studies at one of Britain’s best-known language schools.
Alicia studied Modern Literature and Linguistics at the University of Buenos Aires where she got a Masters Degree and has a second Masters degree in Spanish from the University of Virginia in the USA. Alicia also holds a TEFL qualification and has extensive experience teaching English to native Spanish speakers.
In order to prepare myself for the UK Diplomatic Service’s Operational level Spanish language exam, I did an intensive Spanish course with Alicia via Skype for seven months. I started at beginner level and got to C1 level. Alicia speaks fluent English and Spanish but the classes were conducted almost entirely in Spanish. Since I was learning remotely, I was also impressed by the use of technology. I really enjoyed the course and would recommend Alicia without hesitation to anyone wanting to learn Spanish.
I continue to be really very happy with Alicia. She is an excellent teacher and a lovely person and I really enjoy my lessons with her. I have no plans to stop taking lessons with her for the foreseeable future, as I would like to become fluent in Argentinian Spanish!
For the past 6 years I have had lessons from Drew, and more recently Elena and Alicia. Their knowledge, passion and professionalism in teaching me Spanish has enabled me to progress my language skills from A Levels right through to university. Each class has been different, with each tutor varying and adapting in order to suit my strengths and weaknesses. Their patience has been second to none, and I would even go as far as saying that they have felt more like a friend than a teacher. To anyone looking to learn Spanish for the first time, or to advance their knowledge of the language, I would highly recommend.
