What GCSE Spanish paper worries you the most? The GCSE language exam structure is designed to assess your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and according to many students, this last section is the hardest to face.

There may be several reasons for this. When we write in a foreign language, we must master several challenging language areas such as grammar and vocabulary, and at the same time show the creativity and critical thinking necessary to compose a short essay. If some may worry about losing points over irregular verb declinations, others may fear the blank page and not knowing what to write about.

As always, we’ve got you covered. Here at My Language Lab, we believe that confidence is crucial to perform at your best. We also know that preparation is key to approach exams not only with sufficient knowledge but also with the right attitude.

That’s why we created a series of free online resources for GCSE language students. In this video, you will learn 5 GCSE writing techniques that will help you ace your Spanish exam. Are you ready? Download the GCSE writing guide now.

The best way to prepare for your Spanish GCSE writing assessment

Although writing in a foreign language can feel really intimidating to some, it works just like any other type of assessment. To optimise your exam preparation, you need to follow the below steps:

  1. Familiarise yourself with the exam format. Learners can take different exams, like the AQA, Edexcel, Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, WJEC GCSE, Eduqas, etc. No matter what you signed up for, it’s essential that you know exactly what to expect on exam day and how assessment and points are organised. To do this, you can look at past papers and ask your teacher or tutor for guidance.
  2. Identify the areas to focus on. There’s always room for improvement but it’s best to know exactly where that is. Whether it’s vocab, grammar, or sentence structure, figure out where you need to focus most of your efforts.
  3. Design a revision plan. Now that you know what to prepare for and focus on, you can create the outline of your revision plan, based on your goals and realistic time commitment. If you know what to study and when (ideally, with a weekly plan), you’ll be more likely to stick with it.
  4. Take mock tests. Mock tests are a fantastic way to prepare for your Spanish GCSE writing assessment. Make sure to use realistic questions (especially from past papers) and to time yourself. Ask your teacher or tutor to read your tests and help you identify problematic areas.
